Hakkari/Oksit Zinc Mining Field Print E-mail
It is located around Karakaya village at a distance of 60 km to Hakkari Province centrum by motorway. Oxide deposits are continuing as deposits with 1-5 m thickness, in crystallized massive calcareous rocks and parallel to rock bands and near to the lowest level of schist contacts. Deposit lengths that are visible on surface are hundreds of meters long. There is a possibility that some of those deposits are continuous yet broken by faults. Visible reserve could be a few hundred thousand tons, possibly million tons. In previous mining attempts, it is known that in some parts of these deposits, thousands tons of 15-25% zinc ore was produced. Ore deposits are completely seen on surface. With the deposits diving deep into the mountain with rocks, open site is impossible and only underground method will be possible. Out to field, there’s no problem in means of transportation. Water and electricity could be provided easily yet providing land is hard. As the rivers are cut as a valley by deep slopes, resulting in inappropriate situation for establishing. The exploration certificate for the field is taken from Mining Department by tender.
